“Tell me what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” At some point in our lives, most of us feel the gentle calling of our soul. Sometimes it’s so quieter we can barely hear it – a soft tapping. No louder than a leaf falling from a tree.”

It was this Mary Oliver quote in the opening lines of Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Nadel’s We: A Manifesto for Women Everywhere that first inspired Emma Tattersall to launch her own business.

Ladies-who-Launch is an online business platform that provides a place for conversation, discussion and tangible female role models, within the business sector.

In a society where women are still underpaid, under-appreciated and, essentially, less likely to get a promotion to senior roles, women are taking their careers into their own hands and going out on their own. I AM WOMAN spoke to Emma, about why she created Ladies-who-Launch, and how she think it is helping women to go after what they want.

“Our motto is “you cannot be what you cannot see” and we believe strongly in celebrating the amazing things women are doing every day to help inspire and instil confidence into those reading the stories and content we share.”

Emma, a commercial real estate investor from London, wanted to create a place where women could learn from each other. After years of attending networking events, where she would often feel forced to make awkward conversation while eagerly waiting for an acceptable time to leave, she felt it was time to change up the circulating game.

“I wanted to bring back the importance of sharing our own stories and listening and learning from those we may think we have nothing in common with. I wanted to bring together groups of incredible women who are all experiences their own frustrations and successes to discuss, brainstorm and support one another on the journey.”

Ladies-who-Launch is a small team consisting of founder Emma, Jess Ratcliffe, the resident life coach and Phoebe

Muchmore who shares her reads of the week. Each week they have guest blog

writers for the Speakers Corner and host a quarterly event in London. However, it is the Launch Pad that generates most attention.

Launch Pad curates a simple questionnaire asking elementary questions about what their business and what they do every day that contributors submit to encourage more woman to get out there and do what they love.

“Too often I hear, “I’m not interesting enough to be on the site but I just wanted to reach out” or “what I do isn’t special enough but what you’re doing is great”. Let me say this once and for all – what you do is interesting and inspiring because of the way you do it. You are unique, and your story is different to everybody else’s. What might seem mundane to you is awe inspiring for the next person. We need you and your story, please don’t undervalue your own importance – let us celebrate it.”

Much like I AM WOMAN, LWL is all about community. Emma has created a space where woman in business can come to discuss not only their achievements but their daily struggles. Showcasing the different routes women take to fulfil their upmost potential, and to uplift each other is what Ladies-who-Launch is all about.

“If we can support even just a handful of the incredible people who follow what we are doing when they need that extra bit of motivation or support then we have achieved more than I could ever have hoped for.”
